If you’re looking for a super-affordable place to stay in Sin City, Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino is a no-brainer. It’s central. In fact, the hotel is 6.42 km from the city center of the Las Vegas Strip, which means guests are walking distance to other hotels, casinos, shops, and restaurants. There are a few dining options, bars, a so-so pool, and a mid-tier casino within the hotel property.
But for travelers expecting to be swept off their feet, Harrah’s Las Vegas is not extraordinary. Most Harrah’s guest rooms smell of cigarette smoke, and the décor and features feel stale, if not outdated. And to add insult to injury, most accommodations are overpriced for their quality and amenities.
When you peek over the fence, you’ll discover that the pool is dull, the casino is small, and the entertainment choice doesn’t cut the mustard. Travelers looking for more than a cheap place to crash for the night should check out its neighbor, Tropicana Las Vegas, which is significantly cleaner, more modern, and delivers better bang for your buck.

Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino has 2,526 rooms that are either refreshingly modern and stylish or dull and tired. Sadly, most of them fall into the latter category: They’re generally dated and reek of smoke (something you’ll notice throughout the property). The older guest rooms feature a muted décor with old-timey wallpaper in taupe shades, heavy drapery, and thick carpets.
The beds in these rooms have red-toned pillows and white sheets, with cut-rate stock art hanging on the walls over their brass frames. Almost every feature, from the mini-fridge, through clock radios, to TVs could use some sprucing up.
The recently renovated rooms in the hotel, Valley Tower rooms, however, are surprisingly clean and have a contemporary décor with sleek work chairs, cushioned headboards, and are accented in shades of chrome. They’re more spacious by Strip standards and include docking stations, coffee pots, and flat-screen TVs. The marble-floored bathrooms are big too, with glass-enclosed walk-in showers.
Restaurants & Bars at Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino
The dining options at Harrah’s Las Vegas are okay, with four bars & lounges, two cafes/coffee shops, and six on-site restaurants on the roster. These dining spots include a Toby Keith restaurant, an all-you-can-eat buffet that serves great dishes all day, and Ruth’s Chris Steak House for delicious American BBQ and dishes. More than that, there are several grab-and-go style spots, like Starbucks, ice cream parlors, and fast food joints.
The Fulton Street Food Hall is one option that truly stands out, as it’s an upscale cafeteria that offers a coffee bar, sushi, sandwiches, custom salads, and pizza. There are four bars within the property, but don’t expect to find a high-end lounge or a nightclub.

Spa
The full-service spa at Harrah’s Las Vegas is not something out of the ordinary. It offers a few body wrap treatments, facials, massages, and couples’ treatment rooms, but everything else is pretty standard, including the steam rooms, spa baths, sauna, and salon services. Massage services available at Harrah’s include Swedish massage, sports massage, hot stone massage, and deep-tissue massage.
Various therapeutic treatments are also offered. They include reflexology, hydrotherapy, and aromatherapy.
Gym and Fitness Center
Following the theme of the spa, the fitness center at Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino is average, with multiple free weights, strength-training equipment, cardio machines, and workout mats. There’s a station that serves water and fresh fruit for the much-needed cool-downs.
The gym facility itself is somewhat dark with low ceilings, but it’s roomy and equipped with most the latest machines.
Pools
Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino has an Olympic-size pool, but it’s uninspiring and dull, especially if you have stayed in one of the Strip’s luxury spots like Mandalay Bay, the Bellagio hotel, or Caesars Palace. You won’t find fancy water features, poolside gaming, or any over-the-top shindigs that Vegas are known for. The possible upside your eyes will catch are the well-padded lounge chairs and cabanas (which are available for rent at extra cost to hotel guests), plus the area itself is very clean.
Live Performances
Harrah’s has a decent line-up of ongoing live performances and shows, including an Elvis impersonator, improv comedy, and The Righteous Brothers. As with most Vegas hotels, Harrah’s charges an exorbitant daily resort fee for guest that covers things like Wi-Fi, pool access, and whatnot. Rest assured, you’ll still have to pay for the ticket to see most of these shows, though.
Business Amenities
Harrah’s Las Vegas has a decent meeting and event space. There’s also a business center that offers printing, shipping, and other office services & room service.

By The Strip’s barometer, Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino has very few things to flaunt, and the casino isn’t one. Spanning 87,000 square feet, the casino is smaller and less fancy than most rivals. That’s not to say it lacks the run-of-the-mill gaming offerings; it does feature a decent selection of table games, slot machines, and video poker.
What attracts gamblers to Harrah’s casino floor, however, is Total Rewards, a loyalty rewards program that allows them to earn comp points they can redeem at any Rio, Bally’s Las Vegas, and other Harrah’s properties.
Harrah’s Las Vegas Review: The Verdict
Apart from being centrally located, right on the strip, nothing special about this resort. Yet, it attracts throngs of budget travelers and retirees looking to get some Vegas action without having to break the bank. While most guest rooms are dirt cheap, they’re dull. Plus, the entire place smells of smoke, and feels tired, from the amenities to the decor.
There are 6 restaurants, 4 bars & lounges, and no nightclubs on the property. The pool is boring, but clean and has cushioned lounge chairs for soaking up the sun.
Is Harrah’s Las Vegas hotel casino a great stay? No. You’ll find better. Still, if you want a cheap place to crash after a hard day or night of gambling, or sightseeing, Harrah’s can fill a hole.
